Selecting the right overgrip is essential for any padel player, as it can make a difference in grip, comfort, and control of the padel racket. Among the various types, dry touch and tacky touch overgrips are the most popular. Do you know how they differ and how to choose the one that best suits your style and needs?

This article analyzes the features, pros, and cons of both types of overgrips, highlights leading brands, and offers maintenance tips to ensure your best court experience. You'll also learn about TiendaPadelPoint's range of must-have padel accessories.

What Is an Overgrip and Why Is It Important?

The overgrip is a thin, sticky tape placed over the original racket grip. Its main function is to improve grip, absorb sweat, and provide comfort during play. In sports like padel, where precision and safe handling are crucial, the type of overgrip can radically impact player performance.

How Does a Dry Touch Overgrip Perform in Sweaty Conditions?

A dry touch overgrip is designed for players who sweat heavily in their hands. Its texture is usually rougher and dry to the touch, helping to prevent slipping caused by moisture. Brands such as Adidas, Bullpadel, and Head offer a wide range of this type of overgrip.

• Better absorbs sweat, maintaining a stable grip.
• Prevents sticky sensations after several games.
• Recommended for hot climates or players with excessive sweating.

However, they may lose effectiveness over time if not replaced frequently, as the material tends to wear out faster due to constant friction.

Main Advantages of Dry Touch

The main advantage of dry touch overgrips is their ability to keep your hand dry and grip firm, even during the most intense matches. Their texture also provides a sense of absolute control over the racket, allowing for safer and more precise shots.

What Are the Benefits of a Tacky Touch Overgrip for Racket Control?

The tacky touch overgrip is intended for those who prefer a greater sense of adhesion to the handle, even when their hand is completely dry. Brands such as Wilson, Babolat, and Dunlop stand out in this segment.

• Offers a stickier, secure grip from the very first use.
• Ideal for players who don't sweat much or want a greater sense of stickiness.
• Provides more control on technical and precision shots.

However, under extreme sweating, they may lose their effect and become slippery, so it's best to use them in less humid environments or for low-intensity training.

On the Wear of Tacky Overgrips

These overgrips tend to accumulate dirt and dust easily, reducing their lifespan and grip. It's essential to clean them regularly and change them when you notice a loss of tackiness.

Which Type of Player Should Choose Each Overgrip?

The choice between dry and tacky touch depends on factors such as climate, perspiration, and personal preferences. For example, if you play indoors with air conditioning and don't sweat excessively, a tacky touch can give you extra control. On the other hand, in outdoor and high-temperature conditions, dry touch is your ally.

Are They Compatible with Other Accessories?

Of course, overgrips can be combined with other padel accessories such as wristbands, towels, and frame protectors, optimizing your comfort and experience on the court.

When and How Should We Change the Racket's Overgrip?

The recommended time to change your overgrip varies depending on use and type, but as a general rule, you should replace it every 8-10 games or when you notice a loss of grip or absorption. A worn-out overgrip can cause wrist injuries or reduce your performance, so don't underestimate its importance.

To replace it, remove the old one, clean the base grip, and install the new overgrip by stretching it slightly to avoid wrinkles.

What Maintenance Do Overgrips Require for Optimal Performance?

Maintenance is key to extending the life of your overgrip. Avoid leaving your racket in the sun for long periods, wipe it with a dry cloth after each use, and keep it in a suitable padel bag. This maintains grip quality and prevents bacteria growth caused by moisture.
