Common mistakes in foot placement in padel and solutions

Basic posture mistakes and their impact on your game

Proper foot placement in padel is essential for effective technique and injury prevention. However, many players, both beginners and intermediates, make mistakes that limit their mobility and accuracy on the court. An inadequate stance can lead to slow movements, inaccurate shots, and unnecessary physical strain. In this guide from TiendaPadelPoint, we analyze the most frequent mistakes and how to correct them.

The importance of a solid base in padel technique

Padel, unlike other racquet sports, requires a low and dynamic base, allowing quick transitions between defense and attack. A common mistake is keeping the feet too close together or static, which reduces balance and makes it difficult to react to fast balls. The key is maintaining a distance similar to shoulder width and distributing the weight on the balls of the feet.

To improve your base, it's essential to choose the right padel shoes. Top brands like Adidas or Asics offer models that optimize traction and lateral support, enhancing your performance and reducing the risk of sprains.

Why is losing balance one of the greatest risks?

One of the most frequent mistakes is not bending the knees and keeping the weight on the heels, which leads to loss of balance during movements. This poor posture directly affects your ability to hit with power and precision and increases the likelihood of falling.

Exercises to improve balance and posture

• Practice squats and lateral movements to strengthen your legs and improve your base.
• Simulate match movements, paying attention to distributing your weight on the balls of your feet.

Good support also depends on suitable padel accessories and clothing, allowing freedom of movement and breathability.

What mistakes are made when moving around the court?

Many players tend to cross their feet when moving, especially when trying to reach distant balls, which can cause tripping and slow recovery. Lateral movement, always keeping the body facing the net, is essential to be ready at all times.

Tips for effective movement

• Slide your closest foot in the direction of movement and follow with the other without crossing them.
• Always maintain an active posture, ready to change direction.

To move safely, use padel accessories such as special insoles that protect your feet and improve cushioning.

How does foot position affect shots?

A common mistake is not adjusting foot position according to the type of shot. For example, in volleys, many players don't step forward with the opposite foot, losing power and control. In smashes, poor support can result in ineffective shots or injuries.

Ideal foot positioning in basic shots

• Forehand and backhand: step forward with the foot opposite to your hitting arm to transfer weight correctly.
• Volley: open and light foot position, ready to react.
• Smash: strong push with both feet and balanced jump.

Choosing the right padel racket also affects your technique, as the weight and shape influence how your body weight is distributed in each shot. Brands like Bullpadel and Nox are market leaders.

What is the best way to correct basic foot placement mistakes?

Correcting foot placement requires consistency and attention in every training session. Record your matches to analyze your posture and ask a coach to correct you. Incorporating quality padel balls can also help you practice more realistic and effective movements.
