How to grip the padel racket handle as an advanced player

Mastering the grip for experienced players

Correctly gripping the racket handle is a decisive technical detail at high-level padel. For advanced players, the right grip not only influences power and control but also prevents injuries and maximizes shot efficiency. At TiendaPadelPoint we understand the importance of perfecting this aspect to excel on the court.

The basics of the continental grip

Most professionals and coaches recommend the continental grip as a starting point for advanced players. This technique allows for smooth transitions between offensive and defensive shots, with the hand wrapping the handle as if shaking hands. The ideal position aligns the base of the index finger and the heel of the hand on the top edge of the handle. If you're looking for padel rackets that fit this grip perfectly, our store offers models from brands like Adidas, Bullpadel, or Nox.

Adjusting grip pressure and feel

An advanced player knows the force used to hold the racket must be just right: firm enough so it doesn't rotate, but not so tight it reduces mobility. A common trick is to leave a small gap between the palm and the handle, allowing quick micro-adjustments in response to each shot. Using padel accessories like specific overgrips and grips from brands such as Gripping Gel or DRY GRIP helps maintain comfort and security in intense matches.

What handle features ensure an optimal grip?

The handle's design and thickness also affect performance. Leading brands like Head or Starvie offer handles with different diameters and finishes. A thicker handle may benefit players with large hands, while a thinner one offers greater sensitivity. In our padel accessories section you can find add-ons to customize grip thickness and texture.

The importance of grip material

Changing the grip or adding a quality overgrip is essential to avoid slipping and blisters. Absorbent, non-slip materials, featured in products from brands like Ball Rescuer or Grippy Gripz, make a difference in long matches and humid conditions.

How does grip affect shot type?

Even subtle grip changes can significantly influence the execution of shots like volleys, bandejas, smashes or wall exits. Advanced players finely adjust their hand position for more spin or direction. For example, a slightly closed grip helps create topspin, while a more open grip favors control in defense.

Quick transitions and adaptability

Mastering the grip allows for fast transitions between shots without losing security. Practicing different positions and combinations with padel rackets from brands like Black Crown or Drop Shot helps find the perfect balance between power and control depending on the tactical situation.

What mistakes should advanced players avoid when holding the handle?

Even at advanced levels, some common mistakes include gripping the racket too tightly, which reduces wrist mobility and may cause injury, or using worn grips that promote slipping. It's advisable to regularly check the handle and accessories to ensure maximum safety.

The importance of injury prevention

Incorrect grip can cause tennis elbow, wrist overload or joint pain. Choosing professional-level rackets from our padel rackets section and complementing them with quality padel accessories is essential for prevention.

What are the benefits of perfecting your handle grip in padel?

Improving grip technique translates into greater control, precision, adaptability to different shots and reduced fatigue. The world's best players dedicate time to reviewing and adjusting their grip in every training session. At TiendaPadelPoint you can find accessories that optimize grip and a wide variety of padel rackets designed for experts.
