How to hold the racket handle if you are a padel beginner

Mastering your grip in your first padel steps

One of the most important aspects when starting out in padel is learning to hold the racket handle correctly. The way you hold the racket not only affects comfort and shot control, but it can also prevent injuries and make it easier to learn new techniques. In this article, we delve into the keys to a correct grip, the advantages of mastering it from the start, and how to choose the best accessories, including padel accessories, for an optimal experience.

Importance of grip for beginners

The grip is the foundation for every padel player, and mastering it from day one is essential. There are different types of grips, but for those just starting out, the most recommended is the continental grip. This technique allows you to perform a wide variety of shots, both forehand and backhand, and is favored by coaches and professionals.

Which grip type is best for starting in padel?

The continental grip is the ideal choice for beginners. To achieve it, imagine shaking someone's hand with the racket. Place the "V" formed by your thumb and index finger on the edge of the handle. This position will allow you to keep your padel rackets under control and perform precise, powerful shots.

Avoid gripping the handle too tightly, as this can restrict wrist mobility and increase the risk of injury. A firm but relaxed grip is key to developing an efficient and natural technique.

Common grip mistakes and how to correct them

• Gripping too tightly: Causes tension, fatigue, and reduces shot sensitivity.
• Incorrect grip: Using a tennis or hammer grip limits padel strokes.
• Little contact area: Not using the palm and fingers to hold the racket reduces control.
• Not adjusting the grip: Using a worn or too thick grip makes it harder to hold the racket properly.

If you feel discomfort while playing, check how you are holding the racket and consider changing the grip accessory to adapt the thickness to your hand.

How does the type of racket and grip affect the hold?

The design of padel rackets, their weight and the grip type influence comfort and holding technique. Brands such as Adidas, Bullpadel or Nox offer options for beginners that facilitate learning and comfort. It is advisable to try different models and consult specialized stores such as TiendaPadelPoint to find the ideal racket for your needs.

Recommended grips and overgrips

• The basic grip should always be in good condition to prevent slipping.
• The overgrip allows you to customize the thickness and improve sweat absorption.
• Change the grip regularly, especially if you train several times a week.

How does a good grip affect performance and injury prevention?

Properly holding the padel racket directly impacts performance and injury prevention. A poor grip can cause epicondylitis (tennis elbow), wrist discomfort, and early muscle fatigue. Proper technique, along with good equipment such as padel shoes and specific clothing, helps maintain safety and health on court.

Tips for beginners on the court

• Warm up your hands before playing to improve sensitivity.
• Practice the grip at home to automate the movement.
• Consult a coach or watch professional videos to fine-tune your technique.
• Use padel balls suitable for beginners to make learning easier.

What other accessories and products can help with grip learning?

In addition to the grip, there are padel accessories such as wristbands, anti-slip tapes and protectors that improve the experience for beginners. You can also find deals in the OUTLET section to equip yourself at the best price. Don't underestimate the importance of a good racket bag or backpack, which help keep your equipment safe and organized.
