Perfect overgrip finish on your racket's handle

The art of finishing the overgrip on your padel racket

The final finish of the overgrip on your handle is a crucial detail that can make a difference in your grip and performance on the court. Beyond simple placement, a professional finish ensures comfort, prevents slippage, and extends the lifespan of both the overgrip and the handle. If you want to do it the right way, here's a practical guide and advice backed by experience and quality from leading brands like Adidas, Bullpadel or Head.

Why is a good finish so important?

A well-finished overgrip not only provides comfort. A proper finish prevents the overgrip from coming off during play, improves sweat absorption, and allows you to maintain a firm grip on every point. Moreover, a professional finish gives you a greater sense of control and confidence.

In the padel accessories section of our shop, you can find all kinds of overgrips and tools for a professional finish.

What materials do you need for a professional finish?

To professionally finish your overgrip, you need:

• A quality overgrip
• Precision scissors
• Adhesive tape (usually included with the overgrip)
• A dry cloth to clean the handle before starting

Brands like Starvie, Dunlop, or Nox offer top-level overgrips designed to facilitate both placement and professional finishing.

About the different types of overgrip

There are smooth, perforated, thicker, ultrathin, and even eco-friendly overgrips. Choosing the right type influences the finish, so it's best to check the padel accessories options available on the market.

Steps for a perfect overgrip finish

Follow these steps for the best result:

• 1. Initial cleaning: Use a clean cloth to remove debris and moisture from the handle.
• 2. Placement: Start from the base of the handle, always maintaining the same tension and slightly overlapping each wrap.
• 3. Finishing: When you reach the top end, cut the overgrip at an angle so it fits perfectly.
• 4. Securing: Use the adhesive tape that comes with the overgrip and wrap it tightly around the end so it does not come off during play.
• 5. Review: Check that there are no wrinkles, folds, or bubbles.

If you want to renew the grip on your padel rackets, correctly applying the overgrip is key to an optimal experience.

Expert tips for a professional finish

Professional players usually give the overgrip a slight stretch during placement, especially at the end. This way, the material adheres better and the finish is neater. At TiendaPadelPoint we recommend changing your overgrip regularly to maintain top performance and comfort.

How often should you change the overgrip?

The frequency depends on your level of sweating, intensity of use, and environmental conditions. Experts suggest changing it every 5-10 matches or when you notice the grip is losing adhesion. If you use proper padel shoes and keep your padel balls in good condition, the overgrip will be your perfect ally.

Common mistakes when finishing the overgrip

One of the most frequent mistakes is not cutting the overgrip at an angle, which causes folds or a bulky finish. Another mistake is not securing the adhesive tape well, causing the overgrip to come off. Remember that brands like Babolat or Wilson include quality adhesive tapes to ensure a good finish.

Which overgrip brands stand out in the market?

The overgrip market is broad and competitive. Some of the best brands for durability, comfort, and easy application are:

• Adidas - Innovation and technology in accessories
• Bullpadel - Reference in the padel world
• Head - Professional quality
• Babolat - Premium materials
• Starvie - Top performance
