Common mistakes when positioning on the padel court

Keys to avoid positioning mistakes during play

Positioning on the padel court is one of the most decisive aspects for the performance of both beginner and advanced players. Adopting a good position allows you to anticipate plays, respond efficiently and reduce unforced errors. However, it's common to fall into a series of mistakes that, over time, harm results and progression in the sport. In this article, from TiendaPadelPoint, we help you identify the most common mistakes when positioning on the court and give you the keys to correct them.

Why positioning on the padel court is so important

Being well positioned means much more than standing in a specific spot; it means understanding the flow of the game, the opponent's location and the trajectory of the ball. Correct positioning facilitates access to shots, recovery and decision-making, making your team more solid and competitive.

Padel accessories can help you improve your performance, but the foundation will always be your position and reading of the game.

What are the most frequent mistakes when positioning in padel?

Identifying and correcting the most common mistakes is the first step to progress in this sport. Below, we analyze the mistakes that are most often repeated on the court:

• Standing still after the shot: One of the most common mistakes is not recovering position after hitting the ball, leaving areas unprotected.
• Not communicating with your partner: Lack of communication creates gaps and confusion, especially in fast plays or lobs.
• Standing too close to the net or too far back: A common mistake is not respecting the "no man's land", that intermediate strip where it's hardest to return the ball consistently.
• Not adapting to the opponent or the play: Sticking to a rigid position without considering game variations limits options and exposes weaknesses.
• Not following the play: Not following the ball's trajectory and staying on the same side of the court prevents you from covering the angles well.

How positioning affects your team play

Padel is a sport of coordination. Good positioning is essential to cover spaces, anticipate movements and exploit the weaknesses of your opponent. That's why it's essential to choose your padel racket well, but also to regularly practice your court placement.

The right padel rackets, along with correct positioning technique, make the difference.

How to improve your position on the padel court?

To improve your position on the court, it is advisable to follow these tips:

• Recover the center after each shot: Always try to return to the "T" or the central area, from where you can cover any opponent's attack better.
• Constantly communicate with your partner: Use keywords, gestures and looks to coordinate movements and coverage.
• Observe your opponent: Adapt your position to anticipate their shots and move proactively.
• Avoid "no man's land": Don't stay in the intermediate strip; decide whether to defend from the back or attack near the net.
• Train lateral and frontal mobility: Work on short and quick movements, essential to reposition yourself correctly.

Positioning mistakes by level of play

Mistakes vary depending on the level. Beginner players usually stay still after the shot, while more advanced ones fail for not synchronizing with their partner. Both beginners and professionals should review and train the basics of positioning.
